Hampshire School Library Service are delighted to announce 2 new Book Award Winners for 2019.
1 - for the Hampshire Picture Book Award for 2019 is: "You’re called What?!” written by Kes Gray and illustrated by Nikki Dyson.
5871 pupils from 122 Schools, across Hampshire took part in the award and spent the spring term reading and sharing the four books on the shortlist.
The books chosen for the shortlist were ones that were outstanding picture books with exciting stories that have great style and stretched the children’s imagination, feelings and vocabulary.
2 - for the Hampshire Information Book Award for 2019 is:Joan Procter, Dragon Doctor – The Woman Who Loved Reptiles written by Patricia Valdez and illustrated by Felicita Sala.
Over 4,500 pupils from 80 Schools, across Hampshire took part in the award but there were only a handful of votes separating the winner in the final vote count. Pupils have spent the last term reading, discussing, exploring, evaluating and, best of all, thoroughly enjoying the five shortlisted, quality information books.

May 2017 news
There are several new competitions that have been launched recently.
A short story competition for girls (Write Stuff), one that blends artwork and writing (Arts and Minds), a competition to create a tactile book for children with visual impairment (Tactile Book competition), and inspired by Cressida Cowell, a competition to design a dragon which will sit atop the famous pagoda at Kew Gardens (Design a Dragon).
Definitely something for everyone in this collection!

The winner of the 2017 Hampshire Picture Book Award is Hoot Owl, Master of Disguise by Sean Taylor and illustrated by Jean Jullien. And the winner of the 2017 Hampshire Information Book Award is Epic Book of Epicness by Adam Frost.
