Class 2 enjoyed a bracing morning at Vitacress, Abbotts Ann on Wednesday morning 29/3/17. Led by Susan Simmonds of the Isle of Wight and Hampshire Trust, the children first learned how the clear chalk streams of Hampshire are perfect for growing and cultivating watercress. They then walked past the beds showing watercress at various stages of its growth and watched as some was being gathered ready for cleaning and packing.
The chalk waters of the Pillhill Brook is also teaming with wildlife that the children were soon busy trying to catch and identify.
Other activities included sorting materials into those that originate from plants and those that don’t, and being the ‘early bird’ catching the brightest worms!
The children had a great morning outdoors, and with the help of an army of class parents who drove children to the location and stayed for the duration, there weren’t many wet feet!
A big thank you to all the parent helpers:
Mr (Henry) Williams
Mrs (Luca) Watt
All the children have been having fun using our new wall bars in PE lessons. They have proved a fantastic indoor activity particularly when it's too frosty and slippery to go outside.
